The Ruins of St. Paul

After an hour of roller coaster ride on the ocean we arrived at Macau. A former Portuguese colony, Macau today is famous for its casino industry. Unlike Vegas, the city also has many natural and cultural beauties to explore.

At first glance, Macau is the mini sized Hong Kong, narrowed streets, similar flora. But after you get closer to it, you’ll see the difference. The life pace is much slower. Though its major industry is casino, the city is less commercialized. IMG_2442

Since our time was limited, we skipped the casino and went straight to the Ruins of St.Paul. On our way there we passed the Holy Rosary Church and some famous snack street where we had a taste of Macau through Portuguese egg tarts and pork chop bun. I wish I had taken pictures of them but they were so good, I totally forgot to snap pictures…

The Ruins of St.Paul is a signature attraction in Macau, everyone here has to visit it.

It indeed is magnificent, only if you look at it from the front side. IMG_2515

By the way, a kind reminder for folks who plan to go to Macau. A pair of sneakers are needed, or at least flat shoes for girls. We saw some girls wearing killer highs. Going up and down the stairs are fine but there are lots of stone path which can be hard on your feet.

The Ruins of St. Paul only took us less than half an hour to check it out. As we had plenty of time left, we went to the nearby Monte Forte. The museum within is worth the visit, but the best part is the Fortress. Go upstairs, you can get a good view of the city.

Later during our trip in Europe we found that the city planning of Macau is an accurate of the city Lisbon, with same pebble path and Fortress, where we took our time enjoying the sunset.

Well, this is pretty much about my version of Macau, we’ll have to go back for the second time. 7 hours was not enough to get to know a city.
